Barbie, the upcoming fantasy comedy film, is set to be a fashionable and glamorous adventure directed by Greta Gerwig. Gerwig, along with Noah Baumbach, has crafted a playful and imaginative screenplay based on the iconic Barbie fashion dolls by Mattel. This live-action film marks a significant milestone after a series of computer-animated direct-to-video and streaming television films.

“The movie stars Margot Robbie as Barbie and Ryan Gosling as Ken, bringing a stylish and inspiring portrayal of these beloved characters.”

Supporting this ensemble cast are America Ferrera, Kate McKinnon, Issa Rae, Rhea Perlman, and Will Ferrell, adding to the dreamy world of Barbie.

Originally announced by Universal Pictures in September 2009, the film’s development journey began when Sony Pictures acquired the rights in April 2014. However, after various changes in writers, directors, and casting choices, Sony eventually lost the rights, which were then transferred to Warner Bros. Pictures in October 2018. It was during this time that Margot Robbie emerged as a potential star for the film, ultimately landing the role in 2019.

In 2021, Greta Gerwig was announced as the director and co-writer alongside Noah Baumbach, further elevating the creative vision. The addition of Ryan Gosling and the rest of the cast was revealed in early 2022, solidifying an ensemble that promises an exceptional performance.

Principal photography for the film primarily took place at Warner Bros. Studios, Leavesden, in England from March to July 2022, creating an enchanting backdrop for Barbie’s adventures.

Barbie is highly anticipated and is scheduled for release in the United States on July 21, 2023, courtesy of Warner Bros. Pictures. This empowering and trendsetting film is sure to captivate audiences of all ages with its fashion, comedy, and fantastical storytelling.
