Your tattoo body art is fascinating. Can you share the story behind that?

Turning 30 marked a significant milestone for me. I decided to cover the horrific scars from past suicide attempts with tattoos, symbolizing a powerful reclaiming of my body and life.

It sounds like you had some physical scars you’ve worked hard to heal?

Very much so, and then there is the mental scars. The impact of anorexia left me with brain damage, affecting my speech and daily life. Although the struggle has lessened over time, it’s a reminder of the consequences of neglecting my health, such as not drinking enough water.

Bipolar disorder brought weight gain due to medication, triggering intense body image struggles. At one point, I stopped taking even basic selfies. Joining a gym became crucial in finding support and turning things around

How has the recovery process been? Can you share some of the milestones?

Recovery has been a long, challenging road, spanning 5 to 6 years. Despite the difficulties, I’ve achieved milestones many with bipolar and anorexia may never reach. Being discharged from services is a significant accomplishment that not everyone attains.

That’s amazing process, where did you even start?

I had to disconnect from my old self. As I’ve become well, my past memories feel distant, almost as if they don’t belong to me. It’s a strange sensation, considering I never envisioned a future during the darkest times. Now, with an awesome job, long-term partner, and a healthy relationship, I’m actively planning and looking ahead.

And here you are now, planning for the future. How do you see your life today?

Owning my home and obtaining a master’s degree are testaments to the progress I’ve made. It’s a journey that proves recovery is possible, even when the future seemed unimaginable in the depths of my struggles.
